A Sea Phantom

An experiment involving some recent reading in the poetry of Heinrich Heine (in Charles Godfrey Leland’s beautiful 19th-century translation) and photographs from the New York Times of the Russian free diver Natalia Molchanova (1962 – 2015). The poem is from the first book of The North Sea, written in 1825. (Text images from Internet Archive.)
